Garrisoning the Festungen, Summer 1914

#1

Post by CNE503 » 12 Mar 2017, 19:44

Hello,

I found that only three German border cities were protected with a garrison reinforced with a division-sized "Hauptreserve" in Summer 1914: Strasbourg (30. Reserve-Division), Metz (33. Reserve-Division) and Thorn (35. Reserve-Division).
Were there any other divisional Hauptreserve in August 1914, for instance for strategic cities like Diedenhofen (Thionville), Breslau, Posen, Bromberg, Danzig, etc.?

Thanks for any help provided!
Cheers,

If I remember correctly, the troops from the Eastern garrison cities were used at the Eastern Front in the Corps Pozen. Landwehr troops were routinely used on the Eastern front, unlike in the west.
