I need help for Id. heavy gun
Re: I need help for Id. heavy gun
I didn't know anything about this gun but reposted it to the Landships forum. One of that forum's members
"mad zeppelin" came back with:
"One experimental battery tested 1917/18 in France. Results positive, gun was hitting farther, harder and more precisely than FK 16. Plans to introduce 50 batteries not executed because of deteriorating supply situation in 1918. All four guns lost because of shell failures in 1918.
Explosive load of shell: 1.095 kg. Range: 8,700 m/9,900 m (shrapnel)/11,200 m (chemical).
The data above refers to the L/30 model. The L/31 model was ready for testing at the end of the war but wasn't and had to be destroyed on order of the Entente powers. One battery of four guns and two reserve guns had been constructed. Range: 10,000 m/ 9,500 m shrapnel/ 11,000 m chemical shell"
I've asked about the calibre - I'd guess it's more likely it was actually 8.8cm.
So the idea behind the British 25 Pounder gun/howitzer of WW2 had already been explored in WW1.

Charlie

Re: I need help for Id. heavy gun
As you probably know Rheinmetall had to disguise its activities after WW1 by operating through companies outside Germany - Solothurn in Switzerland and HiH in Holland were two of these. Solothurn sold an 88mm field artillery design to the Chinese in the 1920s. Some of this design were built as the Liao Type 18 88mm field gun - one of these survives in the Museum of the PLA in Beijing - it looks suspiciously like the Rheinmetall 9cm gun.

Re: I need help for Id. heavy gun
It would be interesting any image of Liao Type 18 88mm field gun.
On the other hand I have in my files these two images of 2 different Schneider designs of 15cm guns.
Can anyone help me to identift the exact models ??
Thanks in advance. Sturm78

Re: I need help for Id. heavy gun
Karlik,
According the Schneider catalog from 1914, the top picture shows a 155 mm as written on it: the "canon Schneider de 155 mm de siège". The "canon Schneider de 150 mm de siège type S.C. 150 No. 2, which is also shown in the 1914 catalog, features a different barrel and a larger diameter breach (similar to the breach of the 105 mm L Mle 1913).
On the other hand, there is a postcard that refers to the 155 mm as a No. 2. But I'd rather trust the Schneider catalog.
The bottom picture shows the Schneider prototype for the 152 mm M10 Putilov.

The only difference that I can see between canon Schneider de 155mm de siège and canon Schneider de 150mm de siège type S.C.150 No.2, is the breech....although the image is small to can ensure it

Re: I need help for Id. heavy gun
The carriage of the 1910 howitzer demonstrated to the Spanish Army was reused in the Canon de 155 Mle 77/14 Schneider by replacing the Schneider
barrel with a 155mm Mle 1877 de Bange barrel.
The 1910 prototype of the M10 Putilov (the second image) was sent to Russia for testing and was adopted by the Russian Army after modification to the breech to increase the range and some strengthening of the carriage.
