amphibious landings 1850-1914

Post by nastle » 18 Oct 2020 05:44

Hello

Does anyone have any articles /refs that deals with amphib operations in this period , essentially from Crimean war landings to Gallipoli landings ?

Like how were these operations conducted ? what kind of troopships were used?

How were soldiers/equipment taken from troopships to shore ? what kind of assault craft /landing crafts were used ?

Thanks

Fine tune the question--I think I can assist regarding Japanese landing operations in September 1914 in support of the Qingdao campaign. Some of the British ships that took part in the Gallipoli campaign arrived after the Japanese landing. The Japanese operation was a division size effort with full naval support, including shore bombardments.

US Civil War had numerous examples. Depends if you consider an over the beach landing vs. seizing a port and landing from there.
