I reopen this post for some questions about Hoess' execution in Poland in 1947.
The pictures taken at the execution place show the following sequence:

1 - Hoess is handed over by Polish soldiers to the hangman; the scaffold is partially visible on the right side of the pic;
2 - The hangman, standing on the scaffold platform at the same level of Hoess, adjust the noose around his neck;
3 - Surprisingly, Hoess is now standing on a stool, without the rope around his neck; the hangman, standing on the scaffold platform as in the previous pic, has the rope in his hand and seems to show it to Hoess, who appeasr to refuse it, from the position of his body, bending on the opposite direction
4 - The following pics show Hoess dead or dying hanging from the rope.

What happened between pic no. 2 and 3?
