First use of bunker word

#1

Post by fortrees44 » 06 Jun 2018, 13:37

Hello,
A friend of mine asked me about the first used of the word bunker. He believe that was used at WW2, but I read somewhere that it was used in WW1. Unfortunately I didn't found any document with this word. Some german maps show the term blockhaus but not bunker. So I would like to know if anyone have any guess abuot this question.
Thank you friends.

There is a handy tool, called "Ngram Viewer," that makes it easy to search for a particular word in lots of old books. Here, I did a search on the terms "bunker" and "coal-bunker." (The latter was the space on a ship that was used to hold coal.)
