Per ...

The sinking of the USS Tampa was the Coast Guard's largest KIA in WWI.

Note that in war, the USCG transfers vessels to US Navy (basically speaking) and thus Tampa transitioned from USCGC Tampa to USS Tampa.

Note article's reference to Revenue Cutter Service.
