Carrier Pigeons In Airplanes

Experiments with Carrier Pigeons in Airplanes performed by Fl.-Abt. (A) 207. An airplane was to determine the position of our annihilating fire against Fort Vaux. The two pigeons belonged to the carrier pigeon station of an infantry division and were picked up there before the flight. The pigeons were taken along in a cage up to an altitude of 2,000 meters. The observer marked the position of the guns on a map tracing and stuck this in the tin cylinder fastened to the carrier pigeon in the usual manner. With the engine turned off, the pigeons were released and arrived at division headquarter ten minutes later.
Source is from "Over the Front" Volune 14 Number 3 Fall 1999 (No.9 Nachrichtenblatt doer Luftstreitkrafte).
Do you know any other German air units and British and French air units using the same kind of method?

Sincerely,

The German navel fliers used carrier pigeons during WWI.
