What exactly was the problem of Austro-Hungarian Steel-bronze gun?

What exactly was the problem with Steel Bronze,Autofrettage Bronze gun that the Austrian use in WWI? Most sources tend to say that it is heavier and offer less range than its rival but can anyone delves in to the specific? And does the later gun that was constructed with steel barrel offer superior performance?
