Zeppelin attack plans on United States during WWI?

Post by peter2010 » 21 Oct 2023 10:48

Franklin D. Roosevelt, speaking to reporters in Washington DC on April 20, 1938, made the following remark: “We know today — it was in the papers — that in 1918, before the war ended, the Germans were building a Zeppelin with the perfectly definite objective of sending her out in the spring of 1919 by way of the Great Circle Route, over Iceland, Greenland and down to New York, to drop a cargo of bombs on New York City. We have known that from the documents we picked up afterwards.” Does anyone have more information on this?

I think there was some planning in the works in late WW I on a Zeppelin raid on the US.
