It would be interesting to know what the regimental history of Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 155 has to say about the events at Kalisz. Major Hans Preusker, the commanding officer of II./155 was wounded as a Colonel and regimental commander of I.R. 155 on the 30th of March 1918 and died of his wounds on the 12th of April 1918 at Karlsruhe.

Regards
Glenn

The town is just east of the 1914 border on the Lodz-Warsaw rail line. A build up in this area would have threatened Posen to the NW and Breslau to the SW, but an advance toward either would have been impossible unless the Russians had taken East Prussia.

In August 1914 this seemed a real possibility, at least until Tannenburg. Presumably the Germans justified the action as denying the Russians a base or staging area. If that was the case I assume Preusker was acting on orders and not on his own.

Herr Bartko Reher is a first class source for rare material, particularly for postcards and pictures from 1914-1918/1933-1945.

A serious source, just original stuff!
