Re: Photos of Axis airplanes in Spain
The success of the Condor Legion was actually detrimental to the development of the Luftwaffe in general. The absolute air superiority of the Condor Legion along with the Italian Aviación Legionaria painted an incorrect picture because it was generally done with short haul medium bombers.
The Luftwaffe, I contend based on the experience of the Condor Legion, never developed the heavy long haul bombers which would have been valuable in both the Battle of Britain and in the Eastern Front.

Very interesting photo, George! 5-1 was the prototype He 112 V6. Later wrecked in a crash landing after showing much promise.
Cheers,

No, it was not V6.Maxschnauzer wrote:5-1 was the prototype He 112 V6...
There has been a long-standing controversy about the real identity of 5-1, whether it was V3, V4, V5 or V6. However,
researcher José Luis González Serrano published in the journal "Aeroplano" nº 27 the real identity of the plane, found in a Condor Legion's technical report, Technischer Erfahrungsbericht an Fluggerät VK/88 in der Zeit vom 1.12.36 bis 15.1.37, dated 15 January 1937: it was really V3 (WerkNummer 1292, D-IDMO).

Thanks for the correction, Ironmachine. You certainly have more authoritative sources than mine.Ironmachine wrote:No, it was not V6.Maxschnauzer wrote:5-1 was the prototype He 112 V6...
