Hello,
I'm trying to identify these Nationalist supporting icons and text on this propaganda item that was issued to commemorate the first anniversary of the conflict in July 1937. In addition to Franco in the upper center, on the upper right I can identify the Falange icon and the Carlists icon in the lower center. However, does anyone know what groups does the top left icon, lower left and lower right icons represent? Could someone also please explain the city in the center of the image? What is its significance and what does the text say? Does it say, "Commemorating the Glorious National Movement, July 19, 1937". It looks very semi religious.
Thanks,
James

Re: Spanish Civil War Icons
The building in the center is apparently the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragossa, where the Virgin Mary as Lady of the Pillar, Patroness of Spain, is venerated. Your translation of the text is quite good.
You have correctly identified the Falange icon on the upper right, but the Carlist icon is not the one in the lower center but the one in the lower right. The icon in the lower center is, as far as I can see, Spain's shield in a model similar to the one used by the II Republic. The icon in the lower is AFAIK for Acción Católica. The icon in the top left is for Renovación Española, Calvo Sotelo's political party.
Regards.

Wow! Many thanks for your kind translation. I appreciate your assistance.
Would you also say the upper translation on this card is "Long Live Spain!" and the lower section is "Defend Spain!"?
Thanks,
James

Re: Spanish Civil War Icons
It's always difficult to give a proper translation for that kind of idioms. IMO, a good translation for the upper section (Arriba España) could be "Spain above all!", and for the lower section (Viva España) it would be "Long live Spain!". "Defend Spain!" is not a good translation for either of them.
It should be noted that the exclamation marks are wrong in both cases. They are shown as "!!......¡¡" when they should be "¡¡......!!".
Regards.
P.S.: in your translation of the central text, "Commemorating the Glorious National Movement, July 19, 1937", please note that you have the year wrong. The original text says 1936, not 1937.

Again, many thanks for your wonderful translations and analysis of this postcard. These various and it seems divergent political groups on the right would have been extremely difficult to identify. Your assistance has been greatly appreciated.
