Well, "pure", "hard" military history was and is generally not fashionable in Spain, so with few authors to cover a wide field, the possibility of having a detailed study of the organic structures of the EN durign the SCW is small. There are some books about the EN, but I don't think there is a work with the level of detail you are looking for.
That leaves only trip to Avila - but I'm not sure, if I can get into archive, not talking about a price of such trip. Well, maybe somebody will un-dig those details later.

Just what formalities are required to visit Avila? Anyone with experience?

Thank you. I had no idea, that Spanish archival regulations translated into English. All that remains, is a "small" detail - how easy to receive access to documents in practice ;)
