Last defender of "El Alcázar" has died.

Federico Fuentes Gómez de Salazar, the last surviving defender of the Alcázar de Toledo during the SCW, died on 17 January 2018. In 1936, when he was 17 years old, he entered the fortress as a civilian volunteer and fought there during the whole siege (from 21 July to 27 September 1936). He later became an officer of the Spanish Army, fought with the Blue Division in Russia, and ended his military career as General de Brigada (OF-6 NATO Code).
