American ship in Spanish Civil War
During my research on shipping in the Spanish Civil War I cam across an American merchant ship, the Wisconsin, which was sailing into Republican ports during 1938. I have been unable to find anything about this vessel and would welcome any details about grt displacement, owners, master and ultimate fate

Part of the problem tracking cargo ships is they changed hands and names so often.
This one is a possibility I think.

Very many thanks for the detailed information which has some interesting implications.
However, the photo on this link cannot be the Wisconsin but is clearly a ship built at least a decade later

Looking at the links to Lloyd's Shipping Register and the same books as can be found at Internet Archive, it looks like there were TWO merchant ships named "Wisconsin" in this period
8062 ton Wisconsin built by Bremer Vulkan in 1929 - owners in 1937-1938 "Cie Generale Transatlantique" home port Havre France
6076 ton Wisconsin (ex-Wawalona) built by GM Standifer Const.Corp, Vancouver Washington in 1919 - owners in 1937-1938 "Bulk Carriers Corporation", home port Portland Oregon

Many thanks for that information. I had tried on-line Lloyd's Registers but the pages dealing with the Wisconsin were illegible. American newspapers make it clear it was the American ship which operated in and out of Republican ports during 1938.
