Captain Cortés is died in Andujar (Jaen) few days of his capture in Santuario Ntrª srª de la Cabeza: by death injury in abdomen (shrapnel of tank canon)

The polish general was Karol Swierczewski, called in Spain "General Walter". He was killed in 1947 by ukrainian nationalists.

Yes, that's right. Spanish also called Swieczewski "el Polaco". When he fought in WW2 in Easter Front he wasn't a good general. He drank a lot and beat his soldiers.

No, this officer is not Col. Barutell.

More biographical data about Mr. X (if I'm not mistaken):

-Promoted to captain in 1936. Retired.
-Former catholic priest (?), later commie (?)
-Head of the Bureau investigating the loyalty of the professional army officers to the Republic.
-Captured by the Germans in France (1944?).
