Uniforms in Spanish civil war.
Uniforms in Spanish civil war.
What kind of uniforms soldiers of the republican army did wear?
Or if they hadn`t any kind of uniforms did they use just an armband?
I guess that republicans had lack of uniforms likely than Franco`s soldiers.

Hi,
The republican soldiers at the beginning of the war wear the same uniformes that the day before the war begins. After, I think around 1937 they wore uniforms more "sovietized" because the influence of the russian advisors and military aid.
The forces withtout uniform were the "milicias" (militias), with armbands or handckrchiefs or simply berets or garrison caps
The Nationalist Forces almost always wore uniforms (military and militia).
regards.
Ferran

Osprey book.
The Osprey series has a book on the Spanish Civil war with color illustrations of the uniforms of both sides.

Spanish Tunics
Thought this isn't a primary source you might find looking at the gallery at http://www.lacolumna.org.uk useful. This is the website of a UK based reenactment group who portray Republican troops during the war. The images are mainly of British International Brigaders circa early 1937 and militias of 1936/37.
I also have two original Spanish army tunics and a pair of matching trousers. They are cotton drill and are lower ranks issue. When I get them back from my friend I will gets some photographs and post them. Also Ebay is a good place to trawl for images of SCW equipment that comes up for sale now and then, though you have to take the sellers word for it that they are original items.
Hope this helps

Re: Uniforms in Spanish civil war.
Below is a few photos of an original Spanish Republican Cazadora of probable War time manufacture.
It is definitely Republican primarily because there is a makers stamp that says "Juan Cesar, Valencia, Uniformes Militares" surrounding a Republican Crest and secondly it is the distinctive 'Garbanzo' brown that is typically Republican.
It has very 1930s collars and wooden buttons. It is made of cotton twill
Salud,
James

The best book on this topic is Uniformes Militares de la Guerra Civil Espanola by Jose Maria Bueno, published by Almena 1971 & revised 1997. Not sure if it's stil in print.
The 1997 edition has 277 colour drawings of uniforms from both sides.
