Post by DUKE » 10 Jun 2004, 08:33

Ive looked for information in a lot of places about snipers during the spanish civil war and the only thing that ive found was that they were called "pacos" and that they were used in the "asedio a la ciudad universitaria de madrid" and in "el cerco de oviedo"sry dunno how to say that in english. If u guys could post pictures of them or tell me information like the sniper rifles they used in the republican and in franco's side id be great full.

Thx,

Hello Duke,

The main "pacos" activities were during the days after the rebellion of July'36. They were mainly pro-nationalists elements isolated in urban areas were the military were defeated. Barcelona experimented a hard activity during the final days of July. They were hidden in the rooftops and attacked red militiamen.
Also existed the "coches fantasmas" (ghost cars), wich were flying commandos of snipers in cars and carried raids in "red zones" of the republican Barcelona.
I know only the existence of pacos in republican zone.

Regards,
Ferran

Hi,

By the testimonies of people who related the facts to me, I can say that they used the typical "Mauser" of the army. The military gave ornandce rifles to nationalists civilians (Falange and Comunion Tradicionalista)

Regards,

F.

hello DUKE,as there are well saying, in the spanish civil war there were no
snipers in if, the arms of that type did not exist in both sides, the
one to be called "Pacos" was by the noise that towards the Mauser
when shooting, something asi like....Pacummmm, and of is its name.
