PNV: Santoña talks

I am very interested on gathering information about the "Santoña talks": In 1937 after the Basque provinces were overrun by Franco's army, during the retreat towards Asturias while in Santoña (Cantabria), the PNV and some individuals of the Basque Automous Government, made contacts with the Nationals to inform them of their will to support and to recognize Franco's government in exchange for some kind of agreement that would enable them to retain some power. Obviously, the winning National side plainly refused to come to terms.
Today, the sole mention of this treacherous episode scares the daylights out of the PNV-Basque Autonomous Government officials. Not surprisingly, in their continuous attempt to re-write history, they very often refer to this event as a "fascist invention".
Anyone has details about this episode???
