The cause for war

Hello,

If I'm not mistaken, didn't the SCW begin because conservative elements in Spain feared that the Republican government was turning to Communism? Or was it just seething problems that weren't solved that eventually found expression and simply boiled over? Was Franco truly fascist in philosophy or simply a general that acted in order to preserve the nation from chaos and anarchy?

Cordially,

Berichter

Berichter, it was just one of the conservative's excuse, those conservative called every left wing member "communist", just like those left wing member called those conservative "facist", actually vast majority of Spanish left were either socialist, Anarchist or republicans, both socialist and Anarchist had more than 1 million members, at the same Spanish communist party could only boosted about 150,000 members. At same time, most of the conservative were actually Catholic, Royalist, land owner etc, the Spanish facist was also a very minor part of the conservative, only had a few dozen of thousands members. The reason many people thought SCW was a war which communist vs facist was largly because the major supportor of the conservative were facist Germany and Italy, and the major supportor of the Spanish left was communist Soviet Union, to be fair, Germany and Soviet Union played no major part in the political life of Spain before the war, and Italy only limitedly involved by supporting the possible royal Carlist uprising, all of these 3 countries felt surprise when the SCW broke out.
The cause of SCW was very complicated, to be short, since mid-19 century, different spanish people had different opnions for which road Spain should take in the modern Europe society, they had different opnions, and sadly none of them wanted to make any compromise, several small size civil war had already been fought in the 19 century, many blood had be spiled, but those were inconclusive, and hate became even deepen, then come the fatefull 1936, and more than half million Spanish people would died in this final conflict before things could be settled down.

And the "social revolution" those Spanish consertive so hate was not a "commuist revolution", and those "social revolution" was supported by mainly socialist and anarchist, the spanish communist pary's policy in SCW was a mild one:"Victory first, and revolution later" "no social revolution in the war time"
