Good morning all,
Per subject.
A bit of a derogatory comment is in article. The Japanese didn't know how to secure knowledge ? They didn't invent the Bunsen Burner but ~ 30 years prior they were successful at Port Arthur.
Note the indented comment by the future AEC Chairman Strauss.
Article posted here for historical research and not for Geiger Counter calibration. If it's OK to dive in Bikini waters but not to live on the non-submerged sections, ...... do consult your insurance company about feasibility studies and updating policy.

Plan to nuke Japan's Truk

It's "Filler."
Most of the article concerns Crossroads.
Not worth the effort it took to click on the link. Was hoping for new material, but it is what has been out there for years. The so-called "historian" must be a noob.

If such a plan had been feasible, Tokyo Bay or Kure would have been juicier targets...Truk was rendered useless in a more conventional manner... ...Ben

The blast effect from a single bomb wouldn't have killed enough ships to make the attack worth the coin.
Re: Plan to nuke Japan's Truk
Another consideration would be the headline value of destroying a Pacific Atoll (something not immediately verifiable by the world) versus having an entire city vanish from the Japanese map...If I had just spent six years and two billion dollars on the Manhattan Project, and wanted the Japanese to take immediate notice, demanding their government lay down their arms before it happened again, my target would have also been located on the main island... ...Ben
