Post by hoot72 » 18 Aug 2019, 06:28

Would anyone know any data or references I could look at with regards to how many C-47 transport aircraft were present or operational in the Pacific theathre from 1943-1945 by any chance as well as the number of aircraft used for the ferry flights from California to Australia?

Thanks very much

Have you consulted the United States Statistical Digest of World War II:
https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a542518.pdf
Note - Their numbers include the C-47 & C-53 together.

They have tables for crews on hand in the Pacific Ocean Areas, FEAF, and CBI theaters, these are Tables 57, 58, and 59.

Also, Aircraft on hand in theaters vs Japan, by type and Principal model: November 1941-August 1945(Table 91). This is further broken down to Pacific Ocean Areas, Far East Air Force(FEAF), and China-Burma-India(CBI) in Tables 92, 93, and 94.

Also, does this include the R4D, the USN/Marine Corps version of the C-47? IF so, that will require more work. You can slog through the weekly USN's "Location of U. S. Naval Aircraft" here:

C-47s helped evacuate wounded servicemen from jungles in the Pacific Islands, while airlifting supplies into China over the Himalayas (see https://ww2db.com/aircraft_spec.php?air ... odel_id=54).
