Ki-21 Color and Camo Dec 1941 Rangoon

Post by ace1rush » 09 Dec 2019 01:14

Greetings,

Looking for information on the markings of the Ki-21 Sally's of the 12th Sentai, 60th Sentai, 62nd Sentai and 98th Sentai in late 1941 in the CBI area fighting against the AVG and RAF. Particularity Rangoon during the Christmas fighting.

There is a painting showing a camo pattern of Japanese green with brown/tan similar to the AVG/RAF pattern on the P-40. Looking for information on each Sentai and what patterns were used.

Thanks,

Todd

generally they were painted light gray overall mostly with green mottle on top.
Some camo schemes for period and place in question are here:

Thanks, I've seen both of those links. Neither clearly identifies the December time frame. Still curious about the green/tan-brown combo.

BTW might come in handy. Original Japanese manual of 290 pages. Text in japanese but drawings are priceless (from page 99 on).
Manual for operating Type 97 (Model No. 2), heavy bomber with drawings prepared by Army Air headquarters, October 1941. Report No. 15n(11), USSBS Index Section 2:
