I have no idea what Halsverband means. I appreciate any help:

Mit einem Halsverband geht es sofort weiter. Das Chateau wird genommen, durch dessen Park der Hauptstoß geht. Major Waldow hält davor, besieht sich die Lage, doch er merkt es nicht mehr, daß ein englisches Pak-Geschütz ihn anvisierte. Ein Kopfschuß laßt den sofortigen Tod eintreten.

Agree with Waleed´s suggestion. "Halsverband" means bandage of the neck.

Doh! I am such a dork. Yep, the author had been wounded in the neck by shrapnel just a bit prior to this sentence. The only meaning I was finding for "Halsverband" was, indeed, neck bandage, but I failed to make the connection. Thanks for the help.
