Hello everybody,

I tried to enlarge this photo but I can only read:

"Starben den Heldentod am..."
...
3.Pz.Rgt.4"

Gfr. Kurt Hegler(?)
geb. 13.11(?).20
4.Sch.Reg.66

Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance,

These men were all members of the 13. Panzer-Division. 3.Pz.Rgt.4 and 4.Sch.Rgt.66 were units of that division. A good old friend of mine belonged to 1.Pz.Jg.Abt.13. He was wounded 3 times and was awarded the Silver Wounded Badge as well as the Iron Cross First Class. Before his death in 1994, he bequeathed these medals to me. In the summer of 1942, the 13.Pz.Div. advanced all the way into the Caucasus as far as the city of Ordzhonikidze, the easternmost point reached by a German division in Russia.

Cheers, Gert
