Is the Cyrillic word "кріси" an obsolete Western Ukrainian word for "rifles" or "guns"?

Is the Cyrillic word "кріси" an obsolete Western Ukrainian word for "rifles" or "guns"?

Post by Sid Guttridge » 28 Mar 2021 12:52

I have been looking through an old Ukrainian-language list of weapons from the 1930s and came across the word "кріси", but on line can find modern translation beyond "cross".

From its position in the list it looks likely to mean "rifles" or "guns"?

Can any one confirm what "кріси" means in this context?

Many thanks for any assistance.

Sid.

You are right - it means "rifles" or "guns". Used in Western Ukraine roughly up to 1940s.
