What does it mean by "home front" ?

Yesterday, after reading about the Russo-Finnish War (1939-1940) was also the first time hearing home-front. From the

1) Homefront means people who are not participating directly into the war. They work on their homeland to provide supplies, food for the military front (military units), those who fighting at the border.

2) Homefront-troops: means people who are participating into the war on their home land (national districts). Homefront-troops' mission is to secure "the homefront", provide the "homefront" safety & peace in case the enemy army engage in the national districts

3) Militaryfront means people who are participating directly into the war (means the place where they are are on the battlefield)
