Post by lazybather » 11 Aug 2017, 20:33

Gentleman,

If anyone is able to help, would they kindly post a translation of this paragraph into English:

Grateful for any assistance.

[-] = word obscured in original document.

Stuart. :)

Stuart,

During the period 18.-30.08.1944, as commander of the SS Pz Pion. Batl. 10 he formed individual small combat troops from the remnants of the battalion, and under his command again and again led them against the enemy, who was vigorously pushing forward. Through his actions the enemy was, if not stopped in his advance, at least delayed by several hours. Solely due to his personal efforts, he enabled parts of the division (to escape???) from the enemy. At the head of his unit he broke out (fought his way out ) of encirclement near St. Lambert with the remaining elements of the battalion.

Andy

Good translation.
The obscure word is probably "dissolve".

Yes indeed, it's a very good translation, and I think that the paragraph is speaking about the "Falaise pocket" because the writer is speaking about Saint Lambert!!!
I'm wrong???
Kindly regards from Belgium
Prosper

Hi Prosper,
I agree, both were a great help.
Yes, the paragraph does refer to the 'Falaise pocket' in 1944.

regards
Stuart. :-)
