Google translates this Russian phrase 2-го стрелкового батальона as the above. I assume foot means infantry but what is a "small intelligence battalion"? The unit is attached to the 83rd Independent Marine Infantry Brigade (83-ю отдельную морскую стрелковую бригаду) in 1941.

You might do better to look under the "original to be translated box" which shows you the same in Latin script:

Superb! Later in the translation of the career of HSU Raikanov (which I didn't see) the unit is described as the intelligence platoon, 2nd rifle (light, small) battalion,(командира взвода пешей разведки 2-го стрелкового батальона).

Sorry for all the questions, this is result of my ignorance of most of the Russian military organisations in WW2. I am cross-referencing three Russian language bios, each of which has lots of details that occasionally seem to conflict. Your help now and in the past is and has been very much appreciated

Perhaps infantry reconnaissance platoon is a better translation in this context ?
