Dienstbetrieb?

I know the meanings of the separate words "Dienst" & "Betrieb" but together as "Dienstbetrieb" I can not think of anything that makes sense in English. Here is the context:

"Dienstbetrieb in Frankreich
Der Dienstbetrieb beginnt. Er ist den Erfordernissen und dem Land angepaßt. Die für uns ungewöhnlich warme Herbstsonne läßt alles friedlich erscheinen. An einem warmen Spätsommertag fahren zwei LKWs von der Kompanie nach St. Meen, um von der Abteilung zusätzliche Ausrüstung zu holen. Mit zwei Mann von jeder Gruppe und Fw. Naumann als Transportführer sind wir als Begleiter mit Waffen und Munition dabei. Die Resistance, die Untergrundbewegung, ist auch hier aktiv. Die Wagen werden beladen."

I would suggest:
course of the service to be provided - or service operation

I also found "day -to -day work". You need to be aware that the "-betrieb" in your case derives vom "betreiben = organise, conducting, carry out, operating".
Now you onl need to add " Dienst = duty" and you know what it is about.
