Help with Russian

Post by Jeff Leach » 08 Sep 2019 16:53

I was working though a Russian document and a couple sections were beyond my ability.

The difficult section is Point 4.)

Under Потери в матчасти:

Under Потери:, after the line about killed horse and broken limber

Made another translation attempt:

- three (45 mm) cassions crushed (lost) and one 76 mm cassion (lost).

Still not arrived with the 342nd Howitzer Artillery Regiment: Rifle company (?) commander Černodužskij and 38 Red Army soldiers, five GAZ-AA trucks, 4 ZIS-5 trucks, mobile installation B-1 (a maintenance vehicle?) and six tractors.

One question remains: can anyone tell me what 'Н/с' mean? It should be 'chief/of something'.

So perhaps it's NCO's in English?
If we become increasingly humble about how little we know, we may be more eager to search.

Начсостав = formally all officers with special ranks (political, technical, administrative, medical). But could be used colloquially to designate any officers.
Ammunition cassion for the 76-mm gun consisted of two parts called "ход". So, I believe, that means 3 hafl-caisson and one whole caisson lost.
Medium commander = officer in the rank up to captain inclusively.

Hello
''летучек типа Б" - yes, it's a maintenance car. He had some differences in his class, depending on his belonging to the military branch. Mainly based on the ZIS-5 and the three-axis ZIS-6.
