What does the phrase "hart südlich" mean in the following sentence? The literal translation doesn't seem to make sense (hard south), but perhaps "due south" is the best translation. I'm not sure though.
Division übergelaufen am 19.1 südwestlich Givenchy hart südlich Höhe 119.
What does this German phrase mean?

Re: What does this German phrase mean?
Sorry, I can't give a proper English translation, as I'm not a native English speaker, but this identifies a territory directly adjoining height 119 (in your case) in southern direction.

Re: What does this German phrase mean?
Sorry but the german language, neither the english language are not my native languages, but IMHO it seems meaning the following:
The division defected on 19.1, southwest of Givenchy, south of height (Hill) 119.
Kindly regards from Belgium.

Re: What does this German phrase mean?
Thanks Christian and Prosper. Maybe the best English translation would be "immediately south," not due south.
