Help With Transcribing Kriegsmarine Sailor Photos

Post by ZManfred » 23 Feb 2023 23:43

First I want to thank everyone for the amazing help I received from when I first posted on here a short while ago with my WW1 Photos. I am here once again seeking any possible assistance.

Recently I acquired these four nice photographs of a Kriegsmarine sailor who, judging by what appears to be a Minesweeper War Badge on his uniform, served in that capacity. Also of note it seems he received an Iron Cross II Class too judging by the ribbon on his uniform in the middle standing photo.

As for his rank, while his sleeve chevron is visible I am unfamiliar with its meaning. Would anyone know its significance or an US Navy equivalent by chance?

However, the main reason why I am seeking help is for the writing on the back of the photos. Only one, the up close portrait, has black ink and a wartime date. There is writing on them all except one which has no writing at all, however, this other writing is in blue ink and of a different handwriting. I assume that this was added later on; maybe by a family member? I will include both the front and back of the photos. Any assistance would be tremendously appreciated and I would be greatly indebted once more.

If there is anything wrong with the visibility of the photographs I will be glad to amend them quickly.

Thank you for your time and I hope these photos were of some interest to you all.

Hi Manfred and Greg,

The last one reads:

Papa und sein Bruder Heinrich bei der Marine 1941-42?

Best regards

Thank you very much both GregSingh and Hohlladung once again for taking a look and giving me a transcription so quickly. You guys are the best! I can now record and translate these for preservation's sake.
