hand written name

Post by LuckyStrike23 » 09 May 2023 13:12

I have here this inscription. I read Wilhelm Hampert and and unknown signature. The portrait shows a Leutnant with a "18" cipher on his shoulder boards. I dont find any Wilhelm Hampert. Maybe the signature is the key. Can anyone read it?

Could it be Humpert?
Looking at the back I find several good clues.
Berlin-Halensee is located in Charlottenburg and so is Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe).
To me the last name could be Schaefers or something similar.
There are several in Berlin with the name Humpert.
I also found some Schaefers/Schäfers…

Thanks for the input. I have the Reichswehr Rangliste 1923 as well as the Ehrenliste 1914-18. There is no Humpert and no Schaefers.

In the 1922 Berlin adress book (which is online), one doesnt find a Wilhelm Humpert nor a Wilhelm Hampert. There is no Schaefers either. Several Schäfers, but no Leutnant. It seems it is not possible to solve the mystery.

Hi,

It´s not Humpert, look at "Zum 22.XI.22", there you see how he writes the u with a curve above it.

I read it as "Hempert".

Best regards
Armin

You are right but there isnt a Hempert in Berlin 1922 either. There is a Wilhelm Hempert, who travelled in 1937 to the US.

Any idea what these two letters in front of Wilhelm Hempert could mean? The question is - is this photo maybe dedicated to Hempert and Schaefers (?) is the man?

Hi,
I would say s.l. is the abbreviation for: seinem lieben Wilhelm Hempert

Best regards

Thanks. If you are right, then it is a dedication and I am looking for a man with the name W. Schaefers.

I think I have him - Leutnant Landwehr Infanterie-Regiment 18 - Lt. Wilhelm Schaefers:
