RSI 1944 Easter Card
RSI 1944 Easter Card
Hello,
I just purchased a 1944 RSI Easter Postcard and thought I'd share it with the other members of the forum. It seems to have a very strong anti-USA theme on it. The cards have been loaded in reverse order so they need to be rear from bottom upwards. Could someone kindly translate it into English for me?
Thanks
James

E' Pasqua, è primavera
e la mamma
col suo bambino se ne vanno felici
a casa dove papà aspetta con ansia
i cari liberatori che vengono dal cielo a rallegrare
Easter time, it's sprigtime
and mummy
with child, back happy
home, where daddy wait anxiously
dear liberators, coming from sky to cheer
Interesting double sense in using the term "Liberatori":
Liberatori like Liberators (bombers) and liberation carriers (in ironic sense, obviously).
Best

Re: Postcard
Yes this is the sense. Italian propaganda made a lot of "spin" about the fact that a plane called Liberator (which is written almost exactly as the Italian word Liberatore, and with the same sense: that brings liberty/freedom or that frees someone/something from someone/something. That helped a lot the "spinners", their job was made easier by this) was in reality killing people.JLEES wrote:Max,
Thanks for the nice translation. When you say, "liberation carriers," do you mean bringers of liberation, or freedom?
James
Generally speaking the "image", the sense of the propaganda was: this is the kind of liberty/freedom that the Americans want to give you.
Sory for the intrusion
Best regards

Maxis and FB,
Thanks for your great translation of the propaganda item. I don't know how well it was received in 1944 by the Northern Italians, but it is a great looking piece of propaganda.
