Collar Tab

Postby AHK » 06 Nov 2017 13:56

In the book "The Gestapo" by Rupert Butler on page 126, there is a man next to Himmler with an unknown collar tab. Does anyone know what it is?
Thanks,
AHK

You mean the pic with Himmler walking alongside Karl Wolff, wearing the short-lived white collar insignia?
Or maybe the early Standartenführer/Oberführer tabs? They were pretty unstandardized and different-looking in the early years.

In the case, that's Ernst Röhm. His inisignia is that of the SA-Stabchef. It's unique because Röhm had served as military counselor in Bolivia, and as such he included a Bolivian Army General star in it.
After the Night of the Long Knives, the insignia of the SA-Stabchef was changed to be more similar to the wreathed oakleaf of the Reichsführer-SS.

No, page 126. You have the man with collar tabs, Himmler, Canaris, and Goebbels.
Thanks,

Oh, I don't have the book, I based myself on the picture above. Could someone post a scan of the page, or a pic?

Is the uniform a brown Party one? There was a quite wide variation on NSDAP uniforms early on, depending on the Gau of appartenence... I'll look into it and hopefully come back to you with a satisfactory answer.

I am not really sure, but could it be Hermann Göring? If so, it could be an unique insignia for one of the many ranks and titles he accumulated... I'll keep researching.

Such a tab was worn by high-ranking army musician officers (I think Musikinspizienten), see the first photo here: /viewtopic.php?f=81&t=219443. But I have no further info on it.

Ivan
