According to book To die for Germany, Heroes in the Nazi Pantheon by Jay W. Baird SS Truppführer Kurt von der Ahe, member of Charlottenburg Sturm I was shot dead on February 19, 1933 under curious circumstances. Anyone knows what happened and who was von der Ahe?

Hello,

The mechanic Kurt von der Ahé, born on 19.12.1897 in Sorau, died on 19.02.1933 in Berlin, would certainly have long been forgotten, if his little son Gerhard had not become Heinrich Himmler's foster son after his death.

To the event of the killing (Quote according to Wiki):

“….. A further dispute began here when, on 17 February 1933, members of the communist Häuserschutzstaffel "Lange" (house security squadron) , led by Richard Hüttig, met two SS/SA men at the crossroads with Wilmersdorfer Strasse (/Wall- today Zillestraße).
The SS-Scharführer Kurt von der Ahé was shot dead near the SS-Lokal Koch in the Schillerstraße (shot, died on 19.02.1933 in the Westend-Krankenhaus from gunshot wounds in his neck and head)...."

Richard Hüttig (Born on 18.03.1908 in Bottendorf/Unstrut, executed on 14.06.1934 in Berlin-Plötzensee) In the trial concerning the death of SS-Scharführer Kurt von der Ahé, which began on February 1, 1934, Hüttig was the main defendant. He and other defendants had previously been severely maltreated by the SA in the Columbia-Haus concentration camp.

Although the district court Berlin-Moabit could not be upheld murder charge, the proven unarmed Hüttig(!!) was nevertheless sentenced to death on February 16, 1934, although the court did not come to the conclusion in its reasoning that he had "fired the deadly shot at Ahé. As district court must have found the SA man Wilhelm Amor, who mistook Ahé for a communist. All other members of the squadron got high prison sentences.

Kurt von der Ahé is not mentioned as a "Blutzeuge” (blood witness), the Storm 9 /6. SS-Standarte is named after him in 1934.
He was certainly no hero of the movement, although I detest this questionable term (“…Heroes in the Nazi Pantheon..”) anyway.

Best regards

Many thanks for the information. Just two remarks.
Do not judge the book based on questionable name, the book as such is interesting read. And Ahé is mentioned only in two sentences in part dedicated to Hans Maikowski due to the similar location and timeline of their deaths.

Hello, Jan,
I judge and even do not condemn the mentioned book of Baird at all, because I do not know it at all.
By the way, I know the book by Andre Busch on this subject: "Blutzeugen.Beiträge zur Praxis des politischen Kampfes in der Weimarer Republik" (Blood Witnesses. Contributions to the Practice of Political Struggle in the Weimar Republic).
During my active career in business, I have always tried "to find the true facts behind the stories". And that's why such terms as "Pantheon" in a book title about people - be they National Socialists or Communists - in connection with politically motivated killings disturb me.
Best regards
