Wandels full name was Gottfried Richard Lothar Wandel and he was born
in Lötzen/East Prussia.

In 1940 he succeeded E. Fischer as head of Abteilung IV(Gestapo)within the Staff from the KdS in Krakau. On 12-7-1945 he was arrested by British troops in Berlin.

Hello to you all,

Does somebody know what happened to Gottfried Richard Lothar Wandel after his arrest on 12-07-1945 ?

For example:

1. Was he handed over to the Polisch Government to stand trial (if he was handed over, what was the exact date) ;
2. What was the date that his trial started ;
3. What was his sentence (and what was the date that he was sentenced) ;
4. Did any of his former collegues, made a statement at his trial ;
5. When did he die and where ;
6. Are there any pictures of him ;
7. etc.

Thank in advance,

Mulisch

Hi

Lothar Wandel in June 1947 in Civil Internment Camp Eselheide CIC NO 7.
never extradited to Poland so there is no war crime trial .
The reason for his not extradition is unknown to me.

Hello Dylan,

Thanks for your answer, but was he released from the Civil Internment Camp Eselheide CIC NO 7in June 1947 or later ?

Is there perhaps somebody who knows if this man stood trial somewhere in Germany for his actions during the war ?

Thanks in advance again,

Mulisch

Hello

Wandel wasn't tried in Germany.
He stood as witness in trial of Paul Fuchs and Hermann Weinrich
(from Radom Gestapo).
He died after 1964.
