Can anybody supply me with details of the career of Georg Eberhardt, please? He was killed in action as commander of the SS-Frw.Pz.Gren.Batn. "Narwa" on July 19, 1943, and posthumously awarded the Knights Cross.
I only have the following information:
Born: 27/2/14 (Frankenhausen)
SS No: 36,334
NSDAP No: 1,191,427
Cadet SS-JS "Tölz" - 1935
Ustuf: 20/4/36
Dec 1938 - Ostuf (Stab RfSS)
EK1 and 2 (Aug and Sept 1941, but in what capacity?)
CO 1./"Nordland" (but what dates?)
CO "Narwa" (1941/42 - 19/7/43)
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Furthermore, does anyone have a photograph of him?
Thanks

Eberhardt was highly respected by his Estonian soldiers. They appreciated that he was a man of action, always keping busy and involving himself in the training of the Narwa Bataillon. This was apparently in contrast to some other German officers who seemed resentful of being assigned to the Estonian Legion, and/or who were condescending towards Estonians. Eberhardt earned further, posthumous respect because he died from artillery fire while trying to carry one of his wounded men away from the frontline. The Estonians were very proud when he made the following statement during their training: "I have had the best soldiers in Europe under my command, but I have never before seen such desperados as Estonians" (this quote is in the English summary at the back of the Estonian book Terasest Tugevamad, which is volume 2 of the Narwa Bataillon veterans' history).
