According to Dieter SCHENK, SS-Sturmbannführer Helmuth PFAFFENROTH was the personal adjudant to Generalgouverneur Dr. jur. Hans FRANK.

Hi, this is my first post on this forum so bear with me if I ramble.

I was wondering if anyone had any further info on Helmuth Pfaffenroth? The reason I'm asking is because my wife's maternal Grandfather's name was Peter Pfaffenroth and we have precious little info on her family because of the war.

This is the story as best as it can be put together: My wife's grandmother was taken from Ukraine by the Germans to work as a laborer in Germany because she had welding skills. She worked at the Hermann Goring Werke at Salzgitter (sp?) where she met Peter Pfaffenroth near the end of the war. Although we have few details, Peter Pfaffenroth was from Temeshberg in Romania, and was put in the labor camp where he worked as a tailor. My wife's mother says he was put there because he refused to fight (I thought they just shot people like this). They actually conceived one of their two children during the war, so it seems they may have been allowed a certain level of freedom. My theory is it was because he was "Volksdeutsche" and she may have been "aryanized" (blonde, not overly "slavic-looking"). My theory is he was more cozy with his keepers than her family would like to believe, but I usually keep this opinion to myself. But I'm just guessing. He died of TB in 1946.

I realize this inquiry is perhaps more suited to a genealogy forum, but the name Pfaffenroth is pretty uncommon and we know so little about her ancestry I though I'd ask. Most of her mother's family was locked away behind the Iron Curtain, or evaporated when Peter died.

Also, he had an uncle named Wenz from Austria. It says Helmuth Pfaffenroth was born in Baden-Wurttemburg which is near Austria, so that got me curious as well.

Sorry to go on so much. Does anyone have any info on any other Pfaffenroths? Or records from the HG Werke in Salzgitter. It's heartbreaking for me that my wife knows so little about her ancestry that I'll try to find out anything I can.

I appreciate your patience and would be sincerely grateful for any help that could be provided.

Sourse: HSSPF Ostland/Russland-Nord v. 14.08.1943 list of EK-holder

It's an old entry but maybe someone knows why he was degraded and transferred to Sonder-Btl.Dirlewanger?

He was interrogated in 1963 in West Germany but did not mention this matter:
