Married in 1935 Charlotte STEINHOFF, sister of Johannes STEINHOFF, the future Oberst (LW) and ace of the Luftwaffe.

Dr. HAHN possibly ended the war in civilian clothes at Bad Eilsen as sson as on 8 IV 1945, when the US 84th Infantry Division occupied the city.

HAHN had four children with his wife, Charlotte (nicknamed Die Kommandeuse by the German staff in Warsaw, she knew exactly, what kind of job he was performing in Warsaw. She shared his national socialist, racist and xenophobic beliefs and supported him especially during his trial in Hamburg):
A son, Werner HAHN (economist) born in 1936 and three daughters (born in 1937, 1940 and 1946).
During his appointment as KdS Warschau, HAHN and his family lived in the same building where his office was situated.

The former secretary of SS-Hauptsturmführer und Kriminalrat Paul WERNER (Leiter Abteilung IV A der KdS Warschau), Irene CHMIELEWICZ (a Volksdeutschin) testified during the trial in Hamburg that about 1000 Polish civilians were herded in front of the Cadet School in the Łazienki Park on Aleje Ujazdowskie (Sieges Strasse during the German occupation) in August of 1944, during the Warsaw Uprising.
Three young girls were chosen by their German captors (members of the SIPO und SD), forced to drink alcohol until becoming totally drunk then raped.
One of them was raped by HAHN (direct witness: SS-Obersturmführer Ulrich STERN), who ordered then her immediate execution. When no one volunteered, HAHN shot her himself on the spot...
According to the witness CHMIELEWICZ, STERN was disgusted and upset, not because his superior committed a terrible crime but because he committed a Rassenschande!...

HAHN and his family owned after the war (still own) a big and comfortable house with a large garden in Bönningstedt, north of Hamburg.

HAHN was tried along with the former SS-Rottenführer Thomas WIPPENBECK (a guard from the SIPO und SD Gefängnis "Pawiak" in Warsaw, one of the most notorious and cruel henchmen) before the Hanseatisches Oberlandesgericht (Sievekingplatz 2, Hamburg) between 2 V 1972 and 5 VI 1973.
The judge was Dr. Helmut PLAMBECK (very courteous, polite and helpful to the two defendants, very comprehensive for both defendant's witnesses - many former colleagues from the GESTAPO - but very distant, cold and skeptical toward the prosecution eyewitnesses - mostly foreigners) assisted by Landgerichtsrat BARTELS, Landgerichtsrat DENNHARDT and Assessorin MANOLAKIS.
The prosecutors were Oberstaatsanwalt Dr. Erwin GROSSE and Staatsanwalt Klaus ROLFF.
The jury: Martha ALBERS, Waldemar FINKE, Heinrich HENCK, Emma LÜDEMANN, Erich KRUMMREICH and Günther PFAFFENBERG.
HAHN was defended by two excellent lawyers: Rechtsanwalt Dr. Hajo WANDSCHNEIDER and Rechtsanwalt Dr. Jost HEINEMANN.
WIPPENBECK was defended by Rechtsanwalt Helmut VOGT and Rechtsanwalt Ernst-Friedrich SAMWER.

On 5 VI 1973, judge Dr. Helmut PLAMBECK announced his scandalous verdict: HAHN was condemned to 12 years prison for one case of complicity in committing a homicide (Beihilfe zum Mord) and cleared of all the other charges (hundreds of thousands of cases of murder and tortures)!
WIPPENBECK was declared guilty of two cases of complicity in committing a homicide but was exonerated!
The henchman of Pawiak left the court as a free man.
After his appeal procedure was rejected, HAHN entered the jail on 5 III 1975.

Finally, in a trial that lasted from X 1974 to 4 VII 1975, HAHN was sentenced by judge Dr. Jürgen SCHENCK to life prison for the deportation of hundreds of thousands of Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto to their death in Treblinka.

After the war, HAHN became a wealthy man.
He went immediately into hiding in April 1945 and worked for more than four years as a farm worker under an assumed identity with the help of his wife, knowing that he was wanted for his crimes.
From 1950 to 1958 he worked in the Karlsruher Lebensversicherung A.G. (as deputy director for organizational matters from 1953, then as the office head in Hannover), a job secured for him by his father in law.
From 1958 to 1960 he worked in the Schmidt Assekuranz K.G. in Hamburg, as the head of the insurance department.
He lost that job after his first arrest.
After his first sojourn in prison (8 VII 1960 - 14 VII 1961), he was hired by the Investors Overseas Services in Hamburg.
He kept working until 1967.
