No. I'll repeat my first clue: He's Austrian!

Austrian.
killed on the Eastern Front within weeks of the start of Barbarossa.
Known more for his political dealings.
Rather obscure and short-lived connection to the SS.
5th clue: Killed by accident on 24 July 1941 (some reports state DOD as 24 June).

I would have suspected Josef Leopold who matches your clues but according to Mike Miller
was never in the SS.

It is Josef Leopold. See post no. 7154 and my 3rd clue. He was placed in command of the Austrian SS in January 1937 and therefore qualifies for this forum thread. He never held any real power in the SS and was even overruled by Himmler when he expelled Globocnik from the SS in August 1937. He did not hold SS rank, but neither did Hitler or Röhm. The SS was subordinate to them both--Hitler as Oberste Führer der SS, and Röhm as Stabschef der SA. Leopold's position was similar in Austria, although Himmler never surrendered his authority.
Anyway, we got there in the end. Over to you.......

I see your point with the dynamics of his relations to SS. What delayed answering was not knowing this. Good photo. Like the ones showing youth. That one got a lot of views. Now I must search for a specimen...
