Re: SS ID Quiz
Sorry, Mike, you are absolutely right--it was Stryder and Michal (Goofy) whose mistake required correcting. A mistake quite understandably made when it is printed in a book. My apologies.Michael Miller wrote: ↑07 May 2020, 17:32Thank you, Max.Max Williams wrote: ↑07 May 2020, 17:29I've had several SS historians agree with my observation, now including Mike Miller the original poster. Unfortunately, the Hauptsturmerführer's true identity eludes us, but I'm sure we can get there eventually. Until then, there isn't much point in advising the Stuttgart University of their mistake.
As for the quiz status, I believe Mike should continue to take his turn, unless there are any major objections.
Max.
Just to clarify, I'm not the original poster of the photo.

This is what is so great about this forum. The true historians and subject matter experts can keep history alive and correct, so that we don't forget the the past. The more casual observers of history, such as myself, can learn so many new facts that we never would have on our own.Max Williams wrote: ↑07 May 2020, 18:11Sorry, Mike, you are absolutely right--it was Stryder and Michal (Goofy) whose mistake required correcting. Re: SS ID Quiz
Top symbol is Freikorps Rossbach. 2nd is the rune of the Artaman League, medals of the individual include Ottoman “Iron Crescent” Badge from Turkish theater in WWI as well as Iron Cross. Our man came into his adulthood politically through the influences of 4 men, namely Gerhard Rossbach, Albert Leo Schlageter, Martin Bormann, and finally Heinrich Himmler.

SS-Hauptsturmführer Rudolf Höss
Many thanks Duncan, to be honest, I did not know all of this before ... .

Re: SS ID Quiz
I believe he ended the war as SS-Obersturmbannführer.
Being that he was so well known, I used symbology to cover him a little.
I picked the photo because it was of a more personal nature, a snapshot with his future wife Hedwig.
Well done.
Over to you Lartiste.
