Many photos exist of this man , often in cozy settings . From Düsseldorf, he left school and worked for an insurance company. Gestapo , SD.
Considered “humane” despite the grim task of deportations of Jews under his charge.

He vigorously maintained his innocence, saying he treated his subjects well (many of those in his “care” said the same) . He claimed he had no idea what fate awaited them after he deported them east. He only got 10 years and was out in 6, whereas many of his colleagues in similar positions received the death penalty. He died in 1982. Subject of a full length biography published in 2019 in Dutch language.
