Could someone possibly identify an SS officer from the following description? I came across a very interesting story in a Holocaust survivor autobiography and would like to have a name and possibly some biographic details.

He was apparently a rather highly-placed officer (rank unknown, unfortunately), Austrian and the I Word War KuK army vet. He worked in on Szucha Avenue, Warsaw (room 206 if this is any help), and in summer of 1943 interviewed some people suspected of being Jews in hiding (so almost certainly was in SD IVB Referat, possibly the head of SD IVB-1 Referat?).

Any ideas? It might have been SS-Hauptsturmführer Paul Werner, but this hypothesis is based only on his birth date and place. At any rate, I would appreciate very much some information on Paul Werner, especially his post-war fate (if known). I know he was targeted by Agat, but no execution was attempted before the Warsaw uprising.

Norbert von Bergh-Trips
(Bergh von Trips)
SS-Ostuf Kriminal-Kommisar
born 18.01.1912 in Graz
KdS Warschau Abt.IV C,D (05.12.1942-1944)
SS nr 281 072 (SS-Ustuf:20.04.1940;SS-Ostuf:29.01.1941)

In fact, his real name was Norbert GRAF BERGHE von TRIPS.
He was indeed born on 18 I 1912 in Graz to Richard GRAF BERGHE von TRIPS and to Anna SINZ.

He married Idyll BESSENYÖI-SZABO (born on 08 VII 1916). They had a daughter, Nora GRÄFIN BERGHE von TRIPS, born on 21 VIII 1943.

After they divorced he married Elisabeth KOLLER (born on 23 VI 1916 in Wiener-Neustadt, died there on 20 II 1994).
They had two children: Gerlinde GRÄFIN BERGHE von TRIPS, born on 07 X 1948 (she later married Wolfgang TABORSKY. She is still alive) and Charlotte GRÄFIN BERGHE von TRIPS, born on 24 XI 1954 (still alive).

He finally married Gertrude BIEZIC (born on 05 VIII 1924).

He died undisturbed in Graz on 06 VI 1980.
Since 1964, the Polish authorities requested from the Austrian government to put on trial Norbert GRAF BERGHE von TRIPS for his crimes committed as the head of the Gefängnis der SIPO und des SD in Warschau (the notorious „Pawiak“ prison, on ulica Dzielna 24/26 in Warsaw).
But to no avail...

A source for your claims is required, Minotauros.

Based on the Nobility Abolishing (canceling) Law (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adelsaufhebungsgesetz) from April 10th, in 1919, his official name was Norbert Bergh - Trips. Since that time we dont have nobility in Austria, nobody is allowed to keep/ have titles like Count, Prince, Duke in his/her name. Same is with the word "von = of" which nobility normaly wear.
In the "Berlin Document Center Series 6400: SS Officers' Service Record" this man is also mentioned as Norbert Bergh - Trips: http://www.readbag.com/stengerhistorica ... ficerindex

If there is e.g. a woman with the name "Charlotte GRÄFIN BERGHE von TRIPS" living in Austria she rarely is Austrian. Or she wears this title unlawful and makes herself punishable.

Thank you for your precision History1! :)

BERGHE von TRIPS (introduced himself under this name) was summoned by the Hanseatisches Oberlandesgericht as a witness during Ludwig HAHN's trial.
He stated that he left Austria in 1933 to join the NSDAP. He joined the KRIPO in Berlin in 1936 then the GESTAPO in 1938.
He was head of the Referat IV C from I 1942 to VII 1944.
During his testimony on 15 IX 1972 before the court (Vorsitzender - Dr. iur. Helmut PLAMBECK) he was flippant, unconcerned and he lied many times but wasn't pressured by the judge.

Norbert Bergh-Tripps/ Norbert Berghe von Trips – Did he have any trial in Austria?

Witossek committed suicide 1945 in Dresden.
Werner survived the war but don't have info about his postwar fate.
Bergh-Trips (this name appears in his SSO personnel file) wasn't tried,
proceeding was discontinued in 1972.
