Franz Avril was promoted to SS-Ustuf. in April 1943 and remained at KdS Warschau at least until the end of 1943.

Karl Jepsen was promoted to SS-Ustuf. in November 1941, remained at KdS Warschau until August 1944, was wounded during the Warsaw Uprising and eventually left Warschau. He was earlier temporarily posted to AdS Ostrów Mazowiecka and AdS Siedlce but returned to Warsaw.

Hi there,

SS-Oberscharführer Hermann WIDDERICH (14.08.1913 Immenstadt) was my grandfather, member of SD Warschau.
I am interested in some information about his activity in WWW2 in Warschau.
Just found a old picture and know I am researching his bios.

Dear Steve248
This EK I is a high award for service in place where there was practically no fighting against the Polish insurgents.

Dear Hugodehippo,
Do you have more than one photo? More photos ? Or grandfather's notes from the period of service in Warsaw? Or the notes of his colleagues or the Kameradschaft meetings?
You can find more in Ludwigsburg (below) - or Hamburg (I don't know archival signature).
I found short mention:
"BAL B 162/19307
Re: Hahn et al
Time of committing the act: August/September 1944
Place of committing the act: Warsaw - Uprising
[...] II. Witnesses: [...] 125. Hermann Wid., Dusseldorf, Wupperstr. 3 interrogated: p. 10463 [...]".

Hello,

27 Sept 1944, SS-Oschaf Hermann Widderich (born 14 Aug 1913, Immenstadt) of KdS Warschau awarded EK 1 when serving under Korpsgruppe von dem Bach in “Einsatz: Unternehmen Warschau”.
SS-Oberscharführer und Kriminalassistent Hermann WIDDERICH stated after the war that he was wounded on the second day of the Warsaw Uprising during a relief attempt of an encircled German unit. He claimed that he was evacuated and spent the next 3 months in a hospital back in the Vaterland.
He also "reduced" his award from EK 1939 I Kl. to EK 1939 II Kl.

Regards,

Dear Orlov,

I found two photos of my grandfather in unifom , no notes or other things of interest. One of these photos show him sitting together with two comrades.
There are some photos showing him in civil clothing, they might have been taken during the war, some of them must be taken in southern europe, showing him beneath palm trees.
I will share my data with you, might be helpful for your research.

Best regards,

Thorsten

Dear Torsten
Of course, I'd be happy to get scans of your grandfather's photos. I'll try to locate them.
I wrote to you in priv.

PS: Needless to say, there were no attempts to break through the encirclement of any German units (or rather members of KdS Warschau and KdO Warschau) - only waiting for relief from the nearby SS-Pz.Gren.Ausb.u.Ers.Btl barracks. 3 and improvised armored company SS-Totenkopf. And accidentally arrived II/SS-Sdr.Rgt. Dirlewanger, though he quickly left the German police district.
Dozens of SS officers and non-commissioned officers received EK II and EK I - I don't have time to compile a full list of those awarded - 120 pages of decoration applications have to be reviewed.

I wonder why such a list was compiled without birth-year?
Richter, born 1900 - gefallen in Warschau 2 Aug 1944
Rudolph, born 1903 - convicted in Holland (Leeuwarden), 9 years imprisonment
Hörnig, born 1907
Schimann - I have no DOB/POB

Thanks, George.
3 Feb. 1945 sounds like the defence of Breslau.
