According to the RSHA BBLs, the late Phil Nix was incorrect over the date of vom Felde's promotion to SS-Staf.

BBL 12/44, dated 25 March 1944
his posthumous promotion to Kriminaldirktor with this entry quoting "gefallen am 22.11.1943"

BBL 13/44, dated 31 March 1944
his posthumous promotion to SS-Staf dated from 1 Nov 1943 and quoted the same "gefallen" details.

The obituary notice posted by Albert above comes from "Das Schwarze Korps" 3 Feb 1944.

George, of course I was not demeaning Phil's research. However I do not think vom Felde was with SK 1b/EG A in the Baltics. The information about what he was doing at the time period involved is shown by this:
“Sipo Detachment with the 20 AK Army in Finland:
Whilst in Kirkenes [northern Norway] and later in Finland, Laqua [SS-Ostuf Willy Laqua, BdS Oslo, Abt VI] repeatedly met SS-Stubaf vom Felde. This Sipo officer had been attached to 20th Army to lead a Sipo and SD detachment to Murmansk; he was accompanied only by a driver, a clerk and an SS-Ustuf, a native of the Baltic States, who spoke Russian and acted as interpreter.
“vom Felde’s position was somewhat difficult as the Finns were jealously watching over their rights and did not want any interference by the German Sipo in areas which they regarded as their prerogative. vom Felde remained in Finland until 1942, when he returned to RSHA. His official title up to that time had been ‘Verbindungsführer der Sipo’. Laqua believes he was in permanent contact with Heydrich and with the Finnish State Police…”.
source: Norwegian Archives, PWIS(Norway)/107, interrogation report of Willy Laqua

A Finnish friend is trying get additional information out of Finnish National Archives but access problems exist at all archives at the moment.

you're right Vom Felde never led SK1b. In Michael WIdt a footnote report (page 592)
"Actually, Ehrlinger said in a post-war interrogation, the head of the Stapostelle Weimar vom Felde was supposed to be in charge of the Sk 1b. However, he had been transferred back from the field at short notice, and Stahlecker had entrusted him with the leadership of the Sk 1b"

translation of finnish bio of vom Felde gave these infos.

3In June 1941, the German prisoner-of-war administration also decided to establish German prisoner-of-war camps on the northernmost front, instead of handing over the prisoners to the Finns as planned. It was planned to set up security police secondment camps in the prison camps, with the task of separating unwanted material from the prisoners' circle , screening the prisoners valuable for reconnaissance and killing the rest. vom Felde was appointed head of the Northern Norway and Northern Finland command post, Einsatzkommando Finnland , and at the same time the liaison officer of the National Security Agency RSHA in the area. He arrived in Helsinki at the end of June 1941, where he negotiatedwith the leadership of the state police . As a result of the negotiations, Valpo provided vom Fielde with its own officers and washed interpreters to interrogate prisoners of war. [1]

under von Felde, operations began before mid-July. The nature of the action was also made clear to the Finns: von Felde said the interrogators were also sentencing, and the punishment was death by shooting. [2] Between August and October - probably by early September at the latest - von Felde had access to his own operational mission, the Einsatzkommando Finnland . There is no precise information on the size or configuration of the unit. The unit operated German prisoner of war camps in Stalag 309 in Salla and Stalag 322 in Elvenes, Norway . Prisoners of war were interrogated and classified as reliable , demanding and unwanted material.. Unwanted material meant people to be killed. [3] According to eyewitness accounts, in the Salla camp, for example, prisoners were shot directly into mass graves, large grenade pits, each holding about 150-200 bodies. [4]

The Finns exchanged Karelian and Ingrian German prisoners of war for the Ukrainian and Belarusian prisoners they received. The control department under the Finnish Headquarters handed over to the Germans 500 Finnish prisoners of war identified as communists or Jews , who were apparently shot immediately by the men of the Vom Felde unit. [3]

In November 1941, the Finnish State Police presented to Vom Felde the 3rd class badge of the Order of the White Rose of Finland, based on the fight against espionage against Finland and the successful interrogation of arrested spies and prisoners of war"

Thanks, Georges.
I decide to pay for Silvennoinen's book - an arm and a leg at 50 Euros.
But as I have not bought many books this year, an early birthday present to myself!
