Mulka - Adjutant of Rudolf Hoess

Robert Mulka meldete sich 1941 freiwilig zur SS, nachdemn die Wehrmacht ihn wegen einer Vorstrafe nicht als Offizier hatte übernehmen wollen. Er war für kurze Zeit Ausbilder an einer Pionierschule, bevor er im April 1942 Kompanieführer eines "Wachsturmbanns" im KZ Auschwitz wurde. Im März 1943 stieg er zum Adjudanten des Auschwitz-Kommandanten Rudol Höß und zum stellvertretenden Lagerleiter auf.

A name I've heard many times, but I never thought to look him up in the Dienstalterlisten. Great photo. Now we have at least two Auschwitz SS officers who held the Turkish War Medal (aka "Iron Crescent" and "Gallipoli Star") from World War I (the other being Höß, of course).
