SS-Hstuf. Bunsen and SS-Ostuf. Krauss

SS-Hauptsturmführer Alfred Bunsen.
I've him as CO from 6. Kompanie with SS-T.I.R. in 1941.
But I've also read that he was CO from 5. Kompanie and from 1. Kompanie around the same time.
So what is correct????

SS-Obersturmführer Paul Krauss.
He normally succeeded A. Bunsen on 22-10-41 as CO from 6. Kompanie but I also read on this forum that it's possible that he was CO from 3. Kompanie with SS-T.I.R.
So what could be correct here???

Thanks,
Mike

I have him as Verbindungsoffizier at Panzergruppe 4 during the offensive through the Baltikum in 1941

Mike,

My files show Bunsen as the CO of 1./SS-Totenkopf-Infanterie-Regiment 1 in September 1941 when he was (lightly?) WIA and then moved to 6. Kompanie where he was KIA 22 October 1941. He was succeeded by Baer in the 1. Kompanie and Paul Krauss in the 6. Kompanie. I don't think he could have been in the 5. Kompanie because Ernst Häussler was the CO of 5. Kompanie October 1939 - October 1941. I don't know when Bunsen started in the 1. Kompanie but it's possible that he succeeded Adolf Kurtz who took over III/SS-Totenkopf-Regiment 1 on 25 March 1941.

Phil,

You are right about Häussler being wounded in May. I just overlooked it in a hurry. You are leading 1 - 0. :) But I have a change to get even. I have the OOB of SS-Totenkopf-Infanterie-Regiment 1 dated January 1941 and it shows that Häussler didn't leave 15 Aug 1940 - or if he left he at least came back.
T.I.R. 1 Max Simon ( later XIII Corps)
I/T.I.R. 1 Helmuth Becker (later 3. D "Totenkopf")
1. K Adolf Kurtz
2. K Eduard Weber
3. K Joachim Schubach
4. K Otto Kron to 8. K
II/T.I.R. 1 Eduard Deisenhofer (later 5. D "Wiking" & 17. D "GvB")
5. K Ernst Häussler (later PzGrR 5 "Totenkopf")
6. K Robert Frank
7. K Oskar Kuntze
8. K Otto Kron from 4. K
III/T.I.R. 1 Walter Bestmann (later PzR 10)
9. K Grünewalder
10. K Heinz Kühle
11. K Heinrich Krauth
12. K Johannes Riedel
13. K Paul Schulz
14. K Georg Bochmann (later 17. D "GvB" & 18. D "Horst Wessel")

A lot of future high commanders!

He was apparently with 5.(Schützen)Kompanie but not as CO.
Apparently he commanded the 1.Platoon from 5.Kompanie from January 1941 till ?? 1941

I don't think Bunsen succeeded Kurtz since I've SS-Obersturmführer Georg L.A. Schrep being CO from 1.(Schützen)Kompanie from March till 9<or10> July 1941. So my wild guess is that Bunsen succeeded Schrep and that Baer succeeded Bunsen since I've Baer as CO between ?? September and ?? October 1941.

Hello Mike,

Your first comment was all new to me. Thanks!

My "wisdom" has grown since I wrote about the CO's of the 1. Company. Here is my current understanding (thanks to Mark Yerger):
?? Mar 1941 - 09 Jul 1941....Osf Schrep Georg (KIA)
14 Jul 1941 - 18 Oct 1941...Hsf Zollhöfer Emil (So, no Bunsen at all unless between 09 and 14 July)
?? Oct 1941 - ?? Oct 1941....Osf Baer Richard (WIA)

Happy new year Mike!

Hello Pena,
Glad I could help regarding Bunsen being CO from 1st Platoon with 5.Kp.

Thank you for the other info regarding Zollhöfer being the successor of Schrep.
But yes, maybe Bunsen was CO from July 9 till July 14.

All the best for 2017 to you and your family as well.
For me it will end a bit in grief since I heard earlier today that a good friend lost his battle for cancer and past away....:-(

Greetings, Mike
