KdS Krakau

Post by Minotauros » 30 Jul 2008 10:36

Hi!

Who was Der Kommandeur der Sicherheitspolizei und des Sicherheitsdienst für den Distrikt Krakau between 1939 and 1945?
Please, note the difference between the Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei und des Sicherheitsdienst in Generalgouvernement (or BdS Generalgouvernement, called also BdS Krakau with HQ in Kraków) and the KdS Krakau.

Hi,

KdS in Krakau were (with their last ranks):

SS-Sturmbannführer Bruno Müller (september '39 - november '39)
SS-Standartenführer Walther Huppenkothen (november '39 - february '40)
SS-Standartenführer Ludwig Hahn (february '40 - august '41)
SS-Obersturmbannführer Max Grosskopf ('41 - '43)
SS-Obersturmbannführer Rudolf Batz ('43 - '45)

Dzięki Marku! :)

But as far as I know, Dr. BATZ, Dr. GROSSKOPF, Dr. HAHN and Dr. HUPPENKOTHEN were all KdS Generalgouvernement and not KdS Krakau.

Is it possible that KdS Generalgouvernement and KdS Krakau was the same institution?

Well, I know nothing about something like KdS Generalgouvernment. Something like that can be said about BdS Generalgouvernment. According to the book "Gestapowcy" by Józef Bratko, which is the monography of Krakow's KdS headquarters (Der Kommandeur der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD im Distrikt Krakau, Pomorska 2 strasse), the KdS were Müller, Huppenkothen, Hahn, Grosskopf, and Batz.

By the way, were did you find such a name as KdS Generalgouvernment?

There never was a KdS Generalgouvernement, only a BdS Generalgouvernement.
The BdS was the most senior SIPO and SD commander in an occupied territory or country, and the KdS a commander of the SIPO and SD, was his representative on a local level depending the size of territory or country.

Peter :)

Marek's info in the post #2 is correct. These are KdS Krakau.

BdS Generalgouvernement were:
SS-Brigadeführer Bruno Streckenbach (1 Nov 1939-14 Jan 1941)
SS-Oberführer Eberhard Schöngarth (14 Jan 1941-Jun 1943)
Dr. Walter Bierkamp (Jun 1943-Feb 1945)

And KdS Generalgouvernment did not exist.

Hello Darko,

Thank you very much for the sources, i'll try to find the book.

I have one more question:
From the other thread: "Dr. Helmut Glaser wurde von den Alliierten als Kriegsverbrecher an die jugoslawischen Behörden übergegeben. Im Gerichtsprozess gegen Dr. Friedrich Rainer und anderen im Juli 1947 wurde Dr. Glaser zum Tode verurteilt und die Todesstrafe wurde dann auch vollstreckt".

Do you maybe know how dr Glaser and Josef Vogt found themselves in Yugoslavian captivity?
Were they handed over by the US or British authorities?

George

Hello George,

Yugoslav State Commission for potential war criminals had on lists 2.062 Austrian citizens and 4.433 Germans (also Italians, but I do not know how many).
Situation on the end of the Year 1947:
"Americans hand over only 33 from the list of 205 and Great Britain only 128 from the list of 226 potential war crimes."
(Böhme, Kurt: Die deutschen Kriegsgefangenen in Jugoslawien 1949-1953 (= Zur Geschichte der deutschen Kriegsgefangenen des Zweiten Weltkrieges, hg. von Erich Maschke, München 1964).

Dr. Glaser was from British internment camp in Wolfsberg extradicted to Yugoslav authorities.
Vogt was on 15.3. 1947 extradicted to Yugoslavia from Allies authorities.

Hello George,

there are 18 Photos in the book from trial, but there are not in enough high Quality to see People in second raw or on the end of raw. Book is also in German language.
All Photos are from Muzej novejse zgodovine Slovenije, Foto: Bozo Stajer
Also Vogt is on Photos.

Darko
